In aninterview with IGN , headway and laminitis of Respawn Vince Zampella break that the next Battlefield was inspired byBattlefield 3and4 — specifically in terms of its place setting . Zampella told IGN that it ’ll be set in mod times , as opposed to the most recent game in the franchise , Battlefield 2042 .

“ I intend , if you look back to the extremum or the pinnacle of Battlefield , it ’s thatBattlefield 3 … field 4era where everything was modern . And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well , and then we ’ll see where it run short from there . But I think for me , it ’s that point of field - cape is in thatBattlefield 3and4days . So I think it ’s nostalgic for players , for me , for the team even . Those are kind of the efflorescence … although I would say1942also . ”
